Why 40/41?
Forty is the wilderness

Forty is the wilderness. The wandering, the waiting, the testing between the old life and the promise. Forty‑one is what God does next.

We are 40/41 Church because no one is meant to stay in the desert. Whether your forty lasted days or years, God means to bring you through it and into your 41.

Meet our Pastor
Russell Dawson has called Gloucester, Virginia, home since 2016, where he lives with his wife, Julia, and their three children. A husband, father, coach, and working man, Russell has spent his career serving others and building relationships within his community. Since 2006, he has worked at the Newport News Shipyard and currently serves as the Assistant Wrestling Coach at Gloucester High School. Russell has experienced God’s faithfulness through seasons of work, family, waiting, and growth. It was through these seasons that God began to stir something deeper in his heart—a call not simply to attend church, but to help lead people into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. Russell believes the church is not merely a building or a Sunday gathering. The church is people—people who worship Jesus, grow together in His Word, carry one another through difficult seasons, and make disciples who help advance the Kingdom of God. Feeling God’s call to pastoral leadership, Russell and his family are stepping out in faith to lead 4041 Church in Gloucester. Russell’s desire is to lead a church that is deeply rooted in Scripture, centered on Jesus, committed to prayer, and known for genuine relationships. As Russell steps into this calling, his prayer is simple: to faithfully follow where God leads, shepherd people with humility and love, and build a church that exists to honor God’s Word and grow His Kingdom.
